The Gin Game, by D.L. Coburn

April 26 @ 7:30 pm

D. L. Coburn earned a Pulitzer Prize with this play. It is a story about two elderly people living in a run-down Midwestern nursing home. Weller and Fonsia are both isolated by their pasts. Their relationship develops as they play Gin Rummy in the game room. Weller fancies himself a card shark. Fonsia, the novice, stubbornly wins hand after hand. There is great tension as each struggle to accommodate the conditions of their lives. There is tenderness, too, as they consider what the future holds in store for each of them.

Tim Diering

His productions include the 2004 East Coast premiere of RJ Colleary’s Cannibals… Mamma Drama… The Fantasticks… Shirley Valentine… I Fall for You… The Gin Game… All in the Timing… Almost Maine… Love/Sick… Vanya and Sonya and Masha and Spike… and Noises Off.
